SWIM LESSONS
Blair Family
YMCA swim lessons are available for all ages and each session
consists of eight classes with an instructor. Class size is
limited to no more than six and no less than three participants
per class (unless authorized by the Aquatics Coordinator).
Classes & levels may be combined when necessary. Children must
be at least 3 years old and potty trained at the start of the
session to participate in swim lessons. Register for all
swim lessons at the Blair Family YMCA Member Services counter.

Nonmember $55 per child per session

Level
Criteria and Requirements:

Baby & Me:
|
This class allows
parents and infants to work together in learning how to
enjoy being in the water and emphasizes personal safety.
Parents must accompany child in the water. Little
Swimmers diapers are also required. |

Pre-School:
|
This class helps young
children become comfortable in the water and introduces
them to skills necessary to begin learning to swim.
Children must be potty trained and must be at least
three years old. |

Level 1:
|
This level of water
exploration is designed to help the student feel
comfortable, safe and enjoy the water. Students will
learn to float and kick on front and back with support.

Level 2: |
In this class, we work
on developing primary skills like floating and gliding
without support (front & back) and begin to learn basic
front and back stroke skills |

Level 3: |
This level works on
building previously learned skills; the students begin
coordinating the front and back crawl. Students will
also be introduced to deep water activities, kneel dives
from the edge and the elementary back stroke.

Level 4:
|
Students will learn
rotary breathing, standing dives, and treading water
using scissor kicks. Students will also swim distances
using front crawl with rotary breathing, back crawl,
elementary backstroke and breaststroke kick. |

Level 5: |
The objective in this
level is to coordinate and refine key strokes including
front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, backstroke,
breaststroke, and sidestroke. Introductions to the
butterfly open turns and other advanced skills begin at
this level. |

Level 6: |
The last level develops
a considerable amount of endurance by the completion of
the course. This level also works on efficiency, power
and smoothness of all strokes. |
